DOVE CREEK, where the mint grows naturally along the banks of this famous tributary of the Concho River, is home to stony clay soil types that create ideal environments for various types of vegetation. Dove Creek was the site of the controversial Battle of Dove Creek, where the Confederates and state militia attacked a large encampment of migrating Kickapoo Indians in January of 1865.
